You know, if these ruthless, murderous, anti-democratic, totalitarian, anti-peace, chauvinistic blah blah bogeymen wanted to shut down Leader newspapers and really make their point, it would be as easy as putting a bullet through the editor’s head. Why bother spending so much time and money burning down a printing press that’s probably insured for twice its value anyway, and would make the highlight of the next RSF report? Only two people benefit from this staged arson attack, and both of their surnames start with Wickrema.

Pity for them though, because Sri Lankans are too accustomed to self-immolation to be shocked by these amateur fireworks. Why is it that the only “journalists” being killed and “abducted” are expendable nobodies, most of whom get whisked away to comfortable asylum overseas immediately after being released unharmed. How come buildings only get set on fire when no one’s inside. Surely the prospect of residency in Canada or a big insurance payout are not going to scare our righteously noble journalists from doing their sacred duty.
