Drug Uses
Protonix is used for short–term treatment (7–10 days) of severe inflammation and erosion of the esophagus due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, or stomach contents rising back into the esophagus) in adults. Protonix is also used to cure certain conditions associated with Zollinger–Ellison syndrome and similar situations.
How Taken
Take Protonix as directed by your doctor. To avoid stomach upset take Protonix with a meal. Protonix should not be taken within 4 hours of imidazoles (eg, ketoconazole).
More Information
Protonix can cause dizziness. These effects can worsen if Protonix is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Protonix with caution. Don't drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you know how you react to this medication. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, talk to your doctor. This medicine should be used only by the patient for whom it has been determined. Don't take less or more or take it more often than advised by your physician.
