Drug Uses
Carafate is used for healing and prevention of ulcers. It may also be used for other situations as advised by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Carafate as suggested by your physician. Use Carafate on an empty stomach at least one hour before or twp hours after a meal. Do not take an antacid for at least 30 minutes before or after taking this drug. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for complete healing of your ulcer. Continue taking Carafate for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not take Carafate at the same time as other medicines. Take Carafate at least 2 hours after other medicines. If you are not sure about the best time to use Carafate, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Additional Information
Carafate may cause dizziness. These effects can worsen if Carafate is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Carafate with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly negative tasks until you know how you respond to this drug. If your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen, consult with your doctor. Carafate should be used only by the patient for whom it has been recommended. Don't use less or more or take it more often than recommended by your physician.
